Features of metal milling

During construction and repair work, it is often necessary to order the manufacture of various non-standard parts or blanks according to individual drawings.

Non-standard parts may have a complex profile, for the production of which the technology of shaped processing is used.

Various grooves, ledges, edges, grooves of various profiles can be made by shaping work on the parts.

The listed profiles can only be performed by milling.

Milling is a technological process that is based on the rotation of the tool around its axis and the translational movement of the workpiece.

Various machine models are used in multi-profile production.

Various milling cutters are used as a tool for machining.

Disc cutters

They form all kinds of grooves and grooves.

And they can also be used for cutting.

Disk models are classified into the following types:

Cylindrical cutters

These cutters are used for processing flat sections of parts.

They are made with teeth having a straight or screw configuration.

Milling cutters with straight working teeth are used to process bottlenecks.

Wide strips of surfaces are processed with screws.

When operating a cylindrical milling cutter, it is affected by axial forces, the intensity of which depends on the angular inclination of the tooth.

To reduce these loads, double cutters are used, in which the working teeth are located in different directions.

Cutters of this type are made with small and large teeth.

End mills

They are designed for processing planes located at different levels.

To process such stepped surfaces, the presence of a free entrance and exit of the cutter is required.

These models can have both small and large teeth.

They are equipped with plug-in knives made of certain alloys.

The cutting edges of such milling cutter models are located both on the end and on the side parts.

Edges are often made at the ends, but they are additional, and the main load falls on the side teeth.

Cylindrical end mills

Cutters of such models are usually used for work related to metal cutting.

Therefore, this tool has been widely used in the field of construction.

They can have a conical and sometimes cylindrical shape.

The ends can be flat or spherical.

The devices are also used for processing sections of mutually perpendicular planes.

The teeth, which are located on the cylindrical section of the cutter, are made exactly the same as those of cylindrical cutters.

The teeth of the end part have a peculiar shape.

Angle cutters

They are used for processing inclined sections of parts.

They also form angular grooves and grooves.

Depending on the location of the cutting edges, the cutters are divided into two types: one- and two-angle.

On single–angle ones, the cutting edges are placed on the conical and end parts, and on two-angle ones - on two surfaces adjacent to each other.

Due to this arrangement of the cutting edge, two-angle cutters work evenly without jerks and their axial forces are reduced.

Shaped cutters

Such a tool is used if it is necessary to form grooves or grooves of complex shapes.

Depending on the shape of the teeth sharpening, they are divided into two types: with blunt and pointed teeth.

Their cutting edges are of standard size and pitch.

Shaped cutters are used when performing complex work and in cases where high processing accuracy is required.

They are used in most cases when it is necessary to process cylindrical and helical surfaces.
