Band Saws: General information Band saws are a multi-cutter cutting tool used in band saws.
These products have the form of a closed flexible steel band (ring), where teeth are located along one of the edges.
The tape is placed on the pulleys of the machine, which are rotated by an electric motor.
With the help of a band saw, curved and rectilinear cuts are made.
Types of band saws Band saws come in several types.
The material for the tool blades can be: carbon steel, bimetal (for example, bimetallic metal saws), hard alloys.
Both widely used canvases and special ones designed for certain types of steels are available.
The use of webs is determined by the size of the teeth, as well as their hardness, design and wiring.
To reduce the phenomena of resonance and increase the range of lengths of processing with a band saw, the method of variable tooth pitch on the working blade is used (the presence of teeth of different sizes on one blade).
Canvases with the M42 stamp are most widely used.
For cutting tool steel, it is recommended to use blades with the highest hardness of teeth of the M71 or M51 grades.
Proper operation of band saws In order to prevent chipping of teeth that occur during the operation of the tool, it is necessary to use cloths with teeth with reinforced backs.
Stainless steel workpieces (having increased viscosity) are recommended to be cut with a blade with an angle of attack of 15 degrees and a large step between the teeth.
For cutting blanks made of solid metal, characterized by large sizes, in order to prevent the effect of pinching, webs with alternating narrow and wide tooth layouts are used.
