According to their purpose, band saws are divided into the following categories: heavy industrial — characterized by the presence of high—strength cutting tools and capable of working for a long period of time (2-3 shifts); light economical industrial — designed to work in 1-2 shifts, have average cutting accuracy and require control by an experienced operator; commercial (craft machines) - are not designed for long-term continuous use, have low prices and fast tool consumption.
In addition to the type, band saws differ from the way the console is fed to the workpiece: manual — fixing and moving of the fixed workpiece is carried out manually, characterized by low productivity and fast tool consumption; gravitational – fixing of the workpiece is carried out manually, the hydraulic cylinder is responsible for moving the console, they are an improved version of manual machines, due to slower wear of the cutting tool; semi—automatic - the workpiece is fixed using a hydraulic cylinder, the machine is controlled by the operator, have high productivity; automatic — the workpiece is fixed using hydraulics, a roller (CNC) is responsible for the cutting process, they are the most versatile machines, have maximum productivity and minimum wear of the cutting tool.
