Band saw machines are machines designed to work with wood or metal.
A looped saw in the form of a ribbon is used as a working tool.
One of its edges — the front one — is cutting, since it has teeth, and the second one is rear.
One pulley is driven, the other is tensioned.
Varieties of band saws: There are several types of band saws:
- pendulum type — single column machines that operate on the principle of a pendulum;
- column type — where the feed rate can be controlled using a hydraulic drive.
According to their purpose, the machines are divided into three main types:
- lungs,
- medium,
- heavy ones.
Band saw machines are capable of continuously cutting round rolled metal, corners, channels, pipes and other materials into blanks of certain sizes.
Non-ferrous metals, cast iron, stainless steel, and alloy steel are cut on band saw machines.
On machines designed for belt cutting, it is possible to cut a batch of blanks with a small cross section in batch mode.
With the help of a band saw, the cutting of rolled products is usually performed perpendicular to the axis of the equipment.
The equipment reduces the cutting width, thereby minimizing metal consumption and saving electricity.
Their use is indispensable when cutting expensive metals and alloys and thin-walled profiles.
Thus, band sawing can be considered a progressive method for metal processing, significantly different from conventional technologies.
