Sharpening of band saws in winter must be carried out under special conditions – the "winter" sharpening angle must be equal to 90 degrees (and not 120 degrees, as with the "summer" angle).
These parameters are approximate, as they depend on the machine settings, because with a large gap, sharpening the saw at the right angle is a difficult task.
In the process of winter sharpening, it is worth using diesel fuel instead of water as a coolant.
When sharpening band saws yourself, it is necessary to: remove the metal evenly along the tooth profile; maintain the height and profile of the tooth; often use coolant; avoid pressing the circle too hard so that there is no annealing; check the saw blade, since at the end of sharpening it may decrease; make sure that there are no notches on the teeth, and their surface was smooth.
The last rule must be followed very carefully so that when notches form, the protrusions near them do not fade, and the saw does not blunt so quickly.
Also, when sharpening the saw, it is quite important to keep the size of the radius of the tooth base, because due to changes in the shape of the base, cracks may form on the canvas, which is fraught with its rupture.
