How to set up a band saw

To avoid the appearance of such a phenomenon as a "wave" during operation on the sawmill, that is, the output of a board with a wavy surface that significantly reduces the quality of output products, of course, it is necessary to set the settings of the saw itself correctly.

To do this, you need to take into account the following factors:

• the correct setting of the sawmill;
• monitoring the progress of work, in particular, the sawing speed;
• saw quality;
• the quality of the wood.

Also, the settings should be checked after each possible contact of the support rollers of the saw with the body of the log.

The position of the saw in relation to the bed depends on the guide rollers of the installation.

How well they are mounted can be checked using a special adjustment ruler.

There should be no residue left on the surface of the rollers, which can lead to undesirable vibration.

There should be no characteristic risks on the sides of the rollers, which may arise when the rollers did not rotate during the operation of the sawmill.

During the configuration of the band saw, the mandatory points to perform are:

• Checking the bearings.

  When replacing them, it is necessary to check the condition of the landing fasteners in the roller housing for their integrity.

  In case of damage, this part (roller) should be completely replaced.

• Then, during the setup, check the mounting of the roller axis in the housing.

  This means that you need to make sure that all the studs securing the part are properly twisted.

  If a backlash is detected, then the case must be replaced.

  It is worth noting that often during sawing, the joints between the guide carriage and the roller body are damaged.

  As a result, it is impossible to accurately set the position of the rollers.

  Sometimes in such a situation, correcting the bend with the dismantling of the roller body helps.

  However, this is fraught with possible damage to the welding site.

  In such a situation, you need to replace the damaged part with a new one.

  The same applies to hairpins.

• Be sure to adjust the rollers.

  This is necessary to ensure the same pressure of the rollers on the saw when moving the movable roller from one extreme point to another.

  Its guide must move in a plane parallel to the bed.

  If this action is not performed, then when the parameters of the cutting width change, the stiffness of the saw may change, which leads to the appearance of a so-called "wave".
