The use of high-quality STS has a positive effect on the safety of metal-cutting machines and on the efficiency of metal processing.
A large number of types of metal processing require individual selection of a lubricant-cooling agent – this reduces the cost of processing, reduces the cost of replacing cutting elements, and minimizes defective products.
Advantages of maintenance when using coolant
Synthetic lubricating coolants (coolants) are quite popular, are used in most types of metalworking, and have a number of advantages:- the composition of synthetic components significantly prolongs the life of the STS: the ability of synthetics not to perceive the polluting effects of oils and bacteria;
- the long service life of the STS (reaches 3-12 months), depending on the chemical composition and quality of the additives, the better the additives, the more expensive the cost of the STS, this guarantees continuous production activity;
- synthetic coolant does not perceive the oils used on the conveyor and machine tools, reducing equipment downtime due to the replacement of the STS and cleaning of the system;
- reduce the time to prepare for work: due to the transparency of synthetic coolant, the processing and grinding process is visible;
- during high-speed metal processing, synthetic coolant, due to its good fluidity and penetrating ability, seeps to the place of contact between the tool and the workpiece;
- synthetic coolant is characterized by less entrainment of chips and finished products, therefore a replenishing solution is needed in smaller quantities;
- synthetics can be filtered to the smallest extent, up to 10 microns;
- recycling of synthetic plastics is quite simple, because
they do not mix with foreign oils; the long service life of synthetics reduces the cost of its disposal;
- when using synthetic coolant, it becomes easier and faster to maintain metalworking equipment – less lubrication is required, safer and cleaner in the workplace, and the safety of the paintwork surface of the machines is ensured.
It is important to choose them based on the hydrogen index.
Recommended level of hydrogen balance
In practice, the most acceptable pH range is 8.2 – 9.5.If the hydrogen index is less than 8.2, then the growth of bacteria impoverishes the coolant, corrosion of steel alloys is possible.
In addition, workers breathing the decomposition products of coolant irritate the upper respiratory tract.
If the pH is greater than 10, then workers may develop dermatitis, irritate the mucous membrane of the eyes, throat, nose.
Non-ferrous metals and aluminum alloys can stain a liquid, even dissolve in it.
At high pH, high foaming is observed, leading to coolant losses.
If the liquid can stay within the above pH limits for a long time, then it meets the requirements, has endurance – it does not require complete replacement for a long time, its consumption decreases, the number of checks of the cooling system decreases, the frequency of adjustments of coolant parameters decreases.
The coolant maintenance process in the equipment becomes easier and requires less money.
Our experts advise the rational use of synthetic lubricants and coolants to improve the quality of metalworking products, safer and more comfortable operation of operators and improve the operation of machine tools.
